sounds like robinson crusoe we read in 5th grade. he was shipwrecked and had to survive on an island by himself. then he meets a wildling and calls him Friday, and they survive together. don't remember the ending but he makes a raft and eventually finds land, i think. or some pirates find them and kill Friday.

maybe it was a wolf but either way. can't remember how he did it I think his father taught him or something. I think what annoyed me was mainly that it was forced reading and the character whines internally for half the story before "hardening up" for character development then we are forced to write an essay about it which is gay
