i wonder if self-harm would increase my luck temporarily. or if the universe would make an example out of me for trying to hack reality. when i tried to "manifest" things, it usually backfired HARD, like the system was making sure i didn't try that again, so i'm very careful with trying any kind of magic fuckery.

moving away from the good/evil model to something like pleasure/pain. doing good things only brings good karma if you had to endure pain for it, donating 100k to charity doesn't work because it's relatively effortless, but giving your food to someone else while YOU experience hunger is much more impactful.

reminds me of a nietzsche quote:
What if pleasure and displeasure were so tied together that whoever wanted to have as much as possible of one must also have as much as possible of the other. You have a choice in life: either as little displeasure as possible, painlessness in brief or as much displeasure as possible as the price for an abundance of subtle pleasures and joys

quite intense thought experiment and i like your idea more. it resolves the contradiction in a lot of "charity" work that i feel compared to stories of like saintly figures.
